On the subject of graphic design, here is a rule. You are always branding. This means everything you do says something about you from the way you dress, from the web site that you create to promote yourself, the way you talk, you attitude, the way you greet people, the people you choose to be friends with, the car you drive, where you live, how you decorate your home, everything says something about you and people you meet will make an impression in their minds as to what kind of a person you are based on the way that you choose to present yourself. Like it or not, this is what branding is and it goes for companies as well, particularly in the way that companies treat their customers. Some corporations would like to think that branding is all about logo design and corporate colors but they are always branding particularly when they mistreat their customers or treat them well.

Here is a rule for all...
Here is a rule for all of you designers out there. Design does not and can't not happen in a vacuum. Surround yourself with design. Design books. good designs, samples from designers you know are very experienced and talented. Look at the colors they use to lay out, and what works and what doesn't especially how it relates to you. If you do this I guarantee that you will soon become excited especially when you consider that you can use this designer's idea in you own portfolio in your own website, in a business card for yourself, or anything to promote you. Learn from the other designers, and see what they do. It's the best way to incorporate their ideas into your own design. listen

I want to re-emphasize...
I want to re-emphasize this point on networking because it can't be emphasized enough, you do not know who that next important contact is going to be, for that reason you need to meet, greet and be around as many as possible, do not pick and choose who you should focus on because you don't know where the next contact is going to be instead why don't you enjoy being around these people and appreciating them for ___ being human beings rather than contacts for that next job. What will always happen is that the person who pays off the most is one you never expected who be there. listen

Here is a rule about...
Here is a rule about job searching, the best networking you do is going to be done when you don't know it. The person who will find you that great new job is not someone you bump into ____ thinking here's someone with whom I can network. No, the person who's going to get you that great job is going to be someone you bump into a church, meeted a swing dance or bump into at a bar where there happen to be other graphic designers. In other words meet and greet as many people as you can, not because you think they might lead you to a job, but just because you're interested in them. You never know what it would pay off and that is the key. listen

I've discovered something...
I've discovered something about the job you have. The job you have is not something like sales or graphic designer, you have to realize where your passion is. Are you in sales because you believe in a great product? Or are you in sales because you like getting a commission? Are you a graphic designer because you enjoy art? Or are you a graphic designer because you are promoting a product that you believe in? That is were your true passion lies, is it in sales, money, art? Or is it because you are supporting a product or a service or a philosophy that you really, truly wants to be a part of? listen

On Friday, Vivian and...
On Friday, Vivian and I went to Popeye's to try out gizzards. I've never had gizzards before and wouldn't quite sure how I would like them but they were okay. They tasted like dark beet chicken and were quite tender. They were also pretty greasy though and I don't think I'll have them again at least not without some sort of vegetables to balance everything out. listen

This is still a test....
This is still a test. Hello everybody, this is Matt Johnathan blogging for the first time with my Bluetooth device. I'm having fun with it, but the sound is pretty darn crappy. I probably shouldn't have gotten this from radio shack when I bought my phone without testing it first. listen

For those of you interested...
For those of you interested in speed tracks on Interstate 80, between Lincoln and Omaha, I can tell you there are pretty much two places where the cops like to hang out. The first is in Lincoln, around the 27th Street exit. They like this spot because the speed limit goes from 65 miles per hour down to 55 and this makes it easier for them to catch speeders and write tickets. Another profitable spot for the fuss, is right after you cross the river when heading east to Omaha. They like that spot too. listen
